Page 3, Florida Vacation

We drove into South Beach and parked at our hotel on Collins Ave.
I showered, changed and we headed down the beach where
Danny Tenaglia was spinning poolside in celebration of his birthday.

Page 2, Florida Vacation

While I waited for my friends to drive through rush-hour Miami traffic to pick
me up I discovered my suitcase, while standing upright, provided the perfect
seat to lean on.  I also discovered a flaw in the stability when the wheels
gave way and I toppled over onto my luggage, then rolled off onto the sidewalk
in front of 20 people.

Work in Progress II

Thought I could escape the heat by going to the studio today but it was just as
hot and humid in the Soda Plant as it was outside.  Oh well, I spent most of the
day there and made more of a dent in these acrylic paintings.

Albany, NY in the 1970s, starting to fill in some of the roads and trying not
to get to overwhelmed by all that is going on in the foreground.

Second string parade in New Orleans, LA.  I got all the people drawn out and
filled a few of them in.  Not great lighting on these photos but you get the idea :).

I plan on having these done in time for Art Hop which is a few months away!

Made it on the Website...then made Pizza!

I submitted my last post to They Cook,They Draw and they approved it!
CLICK HERE and view "Pesto" on their website.  You can also
share it with friends through emails, facebook, etc.
Drawings with the most views and shares become
part of their "Featured" collection.  So please, help :)

....then I made pizza....

...pesto/ chicken/ tomato pizza with fresh mozzarella and garlic scapes,
which cooled while I sculptured a rabbit out of paper mache
(more on the rabbits later).

No oven, no stove....can it get any easier?!
Yesterday I used the rest of my Italian large-leaf basil plant and
the food processor I got for Christmas to create this super
simple pesto.  Tonight for dinner I'm going to make
pesto/chicken pizza. Hopefully by then it won't be to hot
in the kitchen to cook!

I was inspired by this great website, They Draw & Cook,
and just submitted my recipe.  Keep looking and maybe it'll
make the cut.

Almost Finished...

At the beginning of the summer I took on a new project: wedding invitations.
It was a multi-step process and I believe I am finally on the last step!
The theme is autumn.

First step was the "Save the Date", this week the invitations went out and
as soon as everyone rsvps, there are table place-cards to create
(but that's an easy part).

Page 1, Florida Vacation

This past March I took a fantastic 2-week trip that started in South Beach,
included the Florida Keys and ended in the Everglades.  My longest
amount of time off in years; it was just long enough to relax and forget
what day of the week it was.  I went with minimal reservations and
a tentative idea of what I wanted to do.

I left Burlington, VT after a huge snowstorm that shut down 90% of the city
and forced people to cross-country ski to the bar.  It was a chore getting
a taxi to the airport in the morning and the car would have taken hours to
shovel out.  I was starting to doubt 80 degrees and sunny even existed,
until I stepped off the plane in Miami Beach, FL.

Inspired by the hundreds of photographs that came out of this
picturesque vacation, I decided to create a comic book/graphic novel
to serve as a rough travel guide for tourists to come.
This is Page 1.

My least favorite part of closing the bar is pulling the mats.....so gross!

Peas in a Pod

The second thing to be ready for picking in the garden (after radishes).

Wednesday, July 6, 2011

Some plants grow better in pots then others.  When I thinned out radish
sprouts in the beginning of the summer I replanted some of them on my porch.
This was what they looked like the day before a squirrel ate them.
At least I know it's possible, next year I'll think about covering them in net.
